Seeking to establish connections similar to the ones on-campus students
have with each other, the Allegheny Non-Traditional Student (ANTS) group
was formed. ANTS is a small, supportive group comprised of current and
past non-traditional students. These students may be ACA Scholars, Walsh
Scholars, continuing scholars (part or full time), as well as Allegheny
staff who choose to begin or continue their studies at Allegheny.
Throughout the academic year, the ANTS group gets together for weekly
lunchtime meetings. These informal lunches provide the opportunity for
non-traditional students to discuss classes, homework, study habits,
and professors (!). Additionally, larger social events are held each
semester: first semester, a holiday party; second semester, the "Spring
Fling" where new members are welcomed into the group.
Also, ANTS can count on the support of Nancy Sheridan and Tami Lakins
(group advisor and ACA Scholar/Walsh Scholar advisor, respectively).
Their advice and assistance provides excellent support and guidance
to the non-traditional Allegheny students.
Friendships are formed, many of which last beyond the Allegheny years,
as these students embark on their college experiences together.
