- How many credits are required for a degree at Allegheny?

- The academic
calendar consists of two semesters, each 14 weeks long.
Full time students generally take four courses per semester. For each
course completed, they typically receive four semester hours. 131
semester hours are required for graduation., with a B.A. or B.S. degree.
An associate's degree is not offered.

- What sorts of courses does Allegheny offer?

- The course offerings are strictly liberal arts. Very few courses
are directly job-related; there are no vocational-technical courses.
Few courses are offered late in the day or evening. The Allegheny

- Can ACA Scholars take any course at Allegheny?

- Some courses have prerequisites (listed in the Allegheny
College catalog) that must be satisfied before any
student can enroll.

- How many courses can an ACA Scholar take in a year?

- ACA Scholars are able to take three credit-bearing courses (total
of 12 credit hours) during the year. Scholars usually take one course
the first semester and two the second semester. Substantial amounts
of reading and writing are expected in most Allegheny courses. Most
classes meet 3 hours a week; professors typically expect 2-3 hours
of study in preparation for each hour spent in class. Some courses,
for example Computer Science courses, require many hours in lab in
addition to the three hours spent in class.

- Does Allegheny grant "Life Experience" credit?

- No, there are no "life experience" credits granted.

- Do ACA Scholars get any help choosing courses?

- The scholarship recipient will have an advisor from the faculty
to help in course selection as well as other areas. The recipient
will be classified as a degree-seeking student and all courses taken
will count toward a degree should she decide to continue here or elsewhere.

- Can ACA Scholars use the library and the fitness center?

- The recipient will have all student privileges, including: bookstore,
library,
athletics,
computing
and parking.

- I've been out of the classroom for quite some time. How will
the Allegheny community react to me?

- Allegheny students will most likely be friendly and helpful to you.
Frequently they will look to you for experience that they haven't
had. Faculty are readily available during office hours. For the most
part they are very enthusiastic about having students like you in
their classes. They are extremely approachable and ready to help.
They are eager for you to approach them first if you do not understand
course content.

or returning to college, career goals, financial assistance, using
your skills and abilities, what to expect on a college campus, and
