A Bit Of History
Since 1973, the ACA and Allegheny College have collaborated to offer a limited number of scholarships to Crawford County women for part-time enrollment at the college for one year. In addition we offer the ACA Returning Scholar Scholarship and administer the Mary Loretta Walsh Scholarship, both of which allow a past ACA Scholar to return to Allegheny for a second or third year. We are very grateful to the college for waiving the tuition for a total of 12 credits per year per scholar.
In addition, ACA and Walsh scholars receive a stipend each semester to cover related expenses. Funds for these stipends come from the generous support of the Allegheny and local community through donations and our annual Holiday Card fundraiser, and from the Walsh family.
Our Success
Over 116 women from Crawford County have benefitted from this program; many have either graduated from Allegheny as a result of this beginning or have gone on to successfully attend other colleges in the area. This scholalrship helps empower women by providing an opportunity to broaden their educational experiences.
